Brdo is a small settlement above Lukovica, whose written records date from the 14th century. At that time, there was no castle there. Lukovica, once a small village, later a home of noblemen, bureaucracy and intelligence, is today a monument of rich history and a great place to relax. The castle is by many considered to be situated in the most beautiful surroundings; it is surrounded by small, friendly villages, there are beautiful meadows, forests, streams and fields nearby and the view of surrounding mountains is magnificent. The castle was built in the early 16th century and later on rebuilt many times. It was burnt down during the Second World War and still waits to be renovated. Only the south-western tower and the southern and western gates have been reconstructed. However, we guarantee you that magnificent surroundings of the castle will not leave you indifferent.

GRAD POGONIK / POGONIK CASTLE
Vanj so se naselili nemški vojaki, zato so partizani grad leta 1944 napadli in požgali.

Pogonik castle is located on a small hill above the most meandering part of Sava River, where the rail line runs. It lies 5 km from Litija, next to the old road via Kresnice. It was built in the early 16th century, probably after 1511, when a major earthquake destroyed several castles in Carniola. According to Slovenian scholar and polymath Valvasor, it was built by the citizens of Verneka who used the stone remains of the former demolished building. Because the castle and the surrounding area were occupied by the German soldiers during the Second World War, the castle was burnt down by the Partisans in 1944.

GRAD ZAPRICE / ZAPRICE CASTLE

Zaprice castle has distinctively renaissance-baroque characteristics. The castle, which was arranged into Kamnik Regional Museum in 1961, was in the Reformation period the hideout of the Lutherans in Kamnik. It was rebuilt in the late baroque period and preserved its appearance up to the present days. Museum hosts several permanent and temporary exhibitions and many other cultural events. Permanent exhibitions comprise an open-air ethnological museum of granaries from Tuhinj Valley, a lapidary collection, including selected stony artefacts, the collection of Thonet bentwood furniture and exhibitions on the history of Kamnik and Kamnik middle classes from the end of the 19th century.

MALI GRAD / MALI GRAD CASTLE

Mali grad castle is one of the major tourist attractions in Kamnik. It could even be described as a symbol of Kamnik. The Chapel on the Mali grad hill is the only remaining part of the medieval castle, presumably built in the 11th century. The first owner of the castle was a powerful family of the Counts of Andechs. The upper part of the chapel is distinctively Gothic, with a typical Gothic circumference with keystones; the lower part is built in baroque style with several paintings of the saints. There are several legends connected with the Mali grad Hill, with the most popular definitely being the legend of the countess Veronika, who is also a symbol of Kamnik. The Mali grad Chapel is regularly open in the summertime, from the second weekend in June to the second weekend in September or by prior arrangement all year around.

PLEČNIKOV DVOREC V KAMNIŠKI BISTRICI / PLEČNIK MANSION IN KAMNIŠKA BISTRICA VALLEY

The Plečnik mansion is located just a few hundred meters from the spring of the Kamniška Bistrica River. The plans for the hunting lodge which was built in the reign of King Alexander and also for him were drawn up by Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik, whose aim was to incorporate the mansion’s exterior into natural environment on the one hand and on the other hand provide luxury in the interior of the building.

STARI GRAD / STARI GRAD CASTLE RUINS
Stari grad leži na Bergantovi gori, na vzhodni strani mesta Kamnik in predstavlja priljubljeno izletniško točko, od koder se vije čudovit razgled na celotno Ljubljansko kotlino in okolico. Zgodovina Starega gradu sega v začetek 13. stoletja, ko je bil v lasti grofov Andeških, dandanes so žal ostale le še ruševine.

Stari grad is another name for the Bergantova gora hill, which lies on the eastern side of Kamnik. The view of the Ljubljana basin and its surrounding area is just magnificent and this is also one of the reasons, why the hill has become such a popular tourist spot. In addition, it boasts extremely rich history which dates from the 13th century. The name derives from the fact that a mighty castle, the castle of Stari grad, owned by the Counts of Andechs, used to stand there. Today only the ruins remind us of rich history, but it is still worth of visiting; either by car or on foot. There is an asphalt road all the way to the top and several other trails. One of them, the one passing the so called Mill’s Paradise, is also brightly lit in the night.
